The Creator's Garden includes all human persons, other-than-human persons, and all other things found in the particular place that have been given as a gift to a group of Anishinaabeg. This garden provides Anishinaabe people with all the things they need to survive. An Anishinaabe person is embedded within an environment that is both material and spiritual.
The English gloss is "Keeper of the Gifts." This gloss contains both the idea of the gifts given for the survival of the Anishinaabeg as well as the moral responsibility the people bear to the Creator. The way in which Anishinaabe people know that they are taking care of the Creator's garden is by being aware of the consequences of their actions on others. This requires establishing a relationship with other beings in the garden and being aware that mistreating them can lead to unwelcome incidences, such as illness or misfortune, in one's own life path.
